Kanupriya Aditya Mody
Early on, Kanupriya discovered that art can articulate what words often leave unspoken. This realisation set her on a journey to explore creative expression as a tool for transformation.
During her MA Art Therapy training at LASALLE College of the Arts, she had the honour and privilege of journeying alongside individuals from displaced families, children facing medical challenges and non-accidental injuries and women with high-risk pregnancies. These experiences enriched her person-centred, strengths-based approach and deepened her commitment to being a compassionate and supportive presence.
In her personal art practice, she explores themes of identity, reflecting on her experiences as a woman and now as an art therapist. Her artistic practice spans a diverse range of media, including clay, textiles, paints and oil pastels. She is particularly interested in a 'soil to studio' approach, harvesting natural materials to build her artist's toolbox.

'Caution: You are under CCTV surveillance.' This piece aims to unsettle the viewer by making them feel watched and observed—a reference to the omnipresence of surveillance.
The moth’s ocellus serves as a warning of modern surveillance technologies, and invites viewers to confront the discomfort and reality of being observed. Furthermore, it represents the internalised gaze we all carry: a reflection of how society watches, judges and ultimately defines us.
Just as the moth’s ocellus deceives potential predators or prey species, the modern gaze of surveillance shapes our perceptions of vulnerability and identity. The artwork is a take on how we carefully navigate and find a balance between privacy and exposure.
